I was diagnosed with PCOS yesterday at the age of 25. I only wish that doctors in my past would have listened to me and done tests 5 or 6 years ago when I initially began having problems…

I went at least 6 months or so without a period and within that time I was gaining weight. I didn’t know why. I just assumed it was depression or something that was causing the weight gain, which was a result for the missed periods. When I told an old doctor of mine, she immediately put me on BCP, but never addressed anything else. I just assumed that I would take them and the rest would fix itself.

I also noticed that my once clear skin began to break out a lot more that normal. I didn’t pay any attention to it. Finally, last week I went to my gyno for my yearly check up, and I told her that my husband and I walk to get pregnant soon, so I stopped taking my BCP about 5 or 6 months ago, and I only had 2 periods since then. She ordered blood work and an ultrasound, where I was then diagnosed with PCOS.

It really makes me sooooo mad that my old doctor didn’t look deeper into this cause. If she would have, perhaps I would have lost weight then. I now weight about 220 lbs, and that really sucks. I am just so mad because by them not looking deeper into this 5 years ago, it could have really hurt my health more than it already did!
