I was just diagnosed with PCOS in March, and I am also new to the community.
When I first started, my periods were very irregular. When I was 18 I told my mom I had enough and started to figure out the problem. The first doctor ran blood work, everything normal, so she put me on birth control pills. I ended up gaining weight and not being able to lose it.
So I went to my mom’s gynecologist and she said to try to work out and watch what you eat if you don’t lose weight then the blood work.
When I turned 20, I hated the birth control, so I tried another doctor. For those keeping track that is 3 doctors in 2 years. We did the blood work, everything was normal but my sugar was low (possible because of not eating) and my liver enzymes were high. She prescribed me 500mg Metformin. I got the ultrasound done and that was when we knew for sure.
I have lost about ten pounds but I don’t know if that is walking a lot at school, getting of the birth control, or the metformin. Maybe a combination of all three. All I know is that I feel so much better knowing but kind of frustrated because it took so long to diagnose.
